  • Card Sort | Ss Peter & Paul

Make Our Website Work for You Where IS it? Is it even ON the website? Through the use of an exercise called "card sorting," you will be given a stack of cards, one for each page in our existing website which you will be asked to group and organize the way you would expect to find them on the website. You will be given blank cards, as well, in case you think something belongs in more than one place or if you think something is missing. Who should participate? ANYBODY who would have a reason to use the website. Except staff. The purpose of the website is, afterall, to support people who need answers but who don't need to come into the office. This includes: parents trying to register for religious education the deliveryman who needs to know which door to use the new guy in the parish who wants to transfer his Knights of Columbus membership the city inspector who needs to drop in the out-of-town children who need to schedule a funeral the neighbor who wants to know if Catholics REALLY believe that, etc. The more people who participate, the closer we get to a site that serves the greatest number in the best way. The exercise should take far less than the hour provided. Staff will be available for questions after each session. Refreshments provided - so sign up so we have an idea of how many to prepare for. Register

  • Washing of the Feet

Washing of the Feet "It is hard to effectively minister in Christ name when we look down on someone, but if we are washing their feet we look up to them giving them value and worth." -Jonah Books Ways you can symbolically wash the feet of those you want to be of service to include: Engage in a random act of kindness Leave flowers on a friend’s doorstep Call someone just to check in on how they are doing Share words of love and appreciation Make amends for something you have done that may have been hurtful Stand up for those who are unable to do so for themselves Support someone, despite if you agree with their choices Lend a listening ear to someone going through tough times Bring a new person to your church Use your God-given gifts in new ways The main purpose of foot-washing is caring for others, cleansing us in a sin-cursed world, and to emulate Jesus in everything we do. As long as there are genuine emotions behind the act, the service to others will bring feelings of humility and empathy. It is a beneficial act for both parties.

We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (canon 916). A frequent reception of the Sacrament of Penance is encouraged for all. For our fellow Christians We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ's prayer for us "that they may all be one" (Jn 17:21). Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 §4). Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of Communion by Christians of these Churches (canon 844 §3). For those not receiving Holy Communion All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another. For non-Christians We also welcome to this celebration those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ. While we cannot admit them to Holy Communion, we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family. © 1996, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Guidelines for Receiving Holy Communion in a Catholic Church CommunionGuidelines Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery The cemetery is located at the site of the first church buildings south of Loretto at the corner of County Highway 19 and Hamel Rd.
